Has The World of Fast Technology Taken Over Us?

TO SAY THAT WE LIVE IN THE ‘INFORMATION AGE’ IS LIKE SAYING WE HAVE STEPPED INTO A WORLD OF COMPRISED OF MICROCHIPS AND FAST TECHNOLOGY. THIS MEANS WE HAVE MORE WAYS OF COMMUNICATING VIA INTERNET, CELLPHONE, TELEVISION, AND SO MUCH MORE. AS TIME EVOLVES, INFORMATION AGE IS THE NEXT STAGE WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED AND ENTERED. BY LIVING IN THE INFORMATION AGE, WE ARE ABLE TO CONTACT ONE ANOTHER A LOT FASTER AND IN A MORE ELECTRONIC EFFECTIVE WAY. CASTELLS ARGUES THAT, “…FROM STUDIES IN DIFFERENT SOCIETIES, THAT IN MOST INSTANCES INTERNET USERS ARE MORE SOCIAL, HAVE MORE FRIENDS AND CONTACTS, AND ARE MORE SOCIALLY AND POLITICALLY ACTIVE THAN NON-USERS.” I AGREE WITH THIS POINT BECAUSE WITH THE INTERNET, YOU ARE ABLE TO ACCESS DIFFERENT TOPICS AND IDEAS FASTER WHEREAS WITHOUT IT, YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW OR IT WOULD BE INCREASINGLY HARD TO FIND. SUCH THAT, IF I NEEDED TO FIND OUT THE MOST UPDATED NEWS AND MISSED IT ON TELEVISION, IN THIS INFORMATION AGE, I AM ABLE TO ‘GOOGLE’ WITHIN SECONDS AND SHARE WITH MY FRIENDS AS A CONVERSATION STARTER. I DO NOT FEEL THAT BECAUSE OF THIS INFORMATION AGE, IT HAS LESSENED HUMAN CAPABILITIES OF INTERACTING WITH EACH OTHER. NOT ONLY ARE PEOPLE ABLE TO INCORPORATE THIS INTO THEIR DAILY LIVES AS A BENEFICIARY BUT IT BECOMES A TOOL THEY CAN USE TO BETTER EXPRESS THEMSELVES. “PEOPLE FOLD THE TECHNOLOGY INTO THEIR LIVES, LINK UP VIRTUAL REALITY AND REAL VIRTUALITY, THEY LIVE IN VARIOUS TECHNOLOGICAL FORMS OF COMMUNICATION, ARTICULATING THEM AS THEY NEED IT.” (CASTELLS, 2005)

  1. Yikes, are you angry? Why are you yelling? This is almost impossible to read without the usual paragraph breaks and strategic capitalization. You make some great points that are lost in the formatting.
